Straight Talk: Oral History for Family Historians

By Wyatt Winnie

Please join us Saturday July 19th for our monthly meeting featuring Wyatt Winnie, Millsaps College Librarian. His presentation will focus on best practices for interviewing family members, tips for equipment, creating questionnaires, and preparing for the interview itself.

Wyatt Winnie is the College Librarian at Millsaps College. He also manages the Millsaps College Archives, The J.B. Cain Archives of Mississippi Methodism. Some of his past projects with the T. Harry Williams Center for Oral History led him to love and appreciate the art of oral history.

So join us July 19th for the how and why you should sit down for some straight talk with your loved ones. This event is open to the public.   For those who cannot join us in person, the Zoom link is below.

Locations and meetings

Mississippi Genealogical Society has a new meeting place -- Christway Commons at Christway Church in Flowood on Old Fannin Road.  This is the meeting area in the rear of the church -- through the parking lot, around to the right rear of the main building.  On meeting days there will be a sign indicating the door to enter.   The address is 1501 Old Fannin Road, Flowood.

MGS generally meets on the third Saturday of most months.  Previously, we met in January, March, May, September, and November.  Now, we are adding meetings in every month except December.  These meetings will tend to be skills-building and planning sessions.
